          The

          "HeadsUp" Verdict 🏆

If you only go to one store: Go to Real Canadian Superstore.

          • Total Bill Estimate: Their basket is roughly $12–$15 cheaper than Sobeys/Co-op this week because of the savings on the "Big Three" (Butter, Eggs, Produce).

          • The "Door Crasher": That bag of Avocados for $1.98 is the steal of the city.

If you are meal prepping: Stop at FreshCo just for the frozen Janes Chicken ($7.99) and the $1.29 Cucumbers, then finish at Superstore.

If you are hosting for the Game: Go to No Frills for the wings ($3.49/lb) and the Rice stock-up ($12.99).

          THIS WEEK in the Peg

This weekend is a good one if you want to get the kids out of the house without committing to a full production. The Kids Helping Kids Musicthon runs February 7 and 8 at Outlet Collection Winnipeg. Because it is set up in the mall, it is easy to keep expectations low. You can listen for ten minutes, grab a snack, and move on if attention spans run out.
If you are craving something cultural but still want warmth and flexibility, museums are doing the heavy lifting right now. The Manitoba Museum has Black History programming tonight, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery has a new Abraham Anghik Ruben exhibition that just opened.
For adults who need a break from winter logistics, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra is performing with Jill Barber at Centennial Concert Hall. The Under Paris Skies theme makes this an easy excuse to book a sitter and disappear for a few hours.

          Looking ahead

Winters in Winnipeg… the next weekend is the big one. Festival du Voyageur runs February 13 through 22. If you plan to go, tickets are worth buying now. Louis Riel Day lands on Monday, February 16, and daytime festival programming that weekend tends to be the most family friendly. February 14 through 16 is also the license free family fishing weekend, with details available through the Province of Manitoba.
On the home front, a few small checks now can save you trouble later. Top up windshield washer fluid before the next cold snap. Check your furnace filter since the heat has been running hard. Keep an eye on the roof if we get a brief thaw.
One last practical note for parents. Valentine’s Day falls on the opening weekend of Festival du Voyageur this year. If you want a dinner out without the kids, book your reservation and your babysitter now. That weekend fills up faster than people expect.
