The Class Action Lawsuit Is done!

If you purchased packaged bread (like bagged bread, buns, bagels, wraps, etc.—but not frozen bread or bread baked on-site) anywhere in Canada outside Quebec between 2001–2021, you may be eligible for some compensation. The claims process is open from September 11, 2025 to December 12, 2025. You won’t need proof of purchase, just info that confirms you meet the eligibility rules. If you got a Loblaw Card benefit already, you can still submit a claim — but your compensation will be adjusted so you only get the extra over what you already received.

🍞 Winnipeg Reactions to the Bread Settlement

If you’ve been following along, you know the bread price-fixing case has been making waves. Local media here in Winnipeg have been clear about what drove it. As Winnipeg Free Press columnist Dan Lett put it:

❝

“Start with good old-fashioned greed.”
Source: Winnipeg Free Press

Even Justice Edward Morgan, who approved the settlement, called it “an excellent and fair result for all concerned.”

Politicians in our city also chimed in. Winnipeg North MP Kevin Lamoureux pointed out that years of inaction left families quietly paying more than they should have.

That’s no small number when you think about groceries adding up week after week.
